Decision Support Databases
Six Key Questions!
Do you control all your own Data?Passenger and
Airline Data is an airline's most valuable asset. Do you control that
data or is it held by your CRS or DCS or Travel Agents? How many other
data sources do you have? Do you know whether your Scheduling and
Airframe Capacity, your Frequent Flyer Club, Staff data, Credit Card
Fraud Information, Problem Passenger List, E-Mail Marketing Lists are
all accessible?
Are you charged each time you access your own
data, or do you hold it in a data warehouse?
Is your data reliable?
Data from
different sources is nearly always unreliable. Is it in the same
format? Operational Databases use different data formats. For example,
everyone would want to analyse "revenue". However each database may
define "revenue" differently. 'Net of exchange rates', 'net of sales
costs', 'net of operational costs'? Each department may therefore come
up with different analysis unless the operational data is imported into
a Decision Support Database.
Can all executives access the data 24/7?
You are a sales
manager on holiday at a beach hotel, but with wifi. Can you log on and
check the bookings for flights you are responsible for? Can you check
the result with last month's bookings and then drill down and analyse
which sales channels are performing poorly?
There is an
agent 'bust out' taking place, does your data warehouse recognise the
danger and send you an alert?
The Flight Register airline databases can be interrogated by all,
authorised staff from any location in the world, 24/7.
Is your airline expanding?
You are certain
to add new information sources if you are to expand your airline. Start
capturing your passenger and airline data before it is lost.
Is your LCC model becoming a 'Hybrid'
Model?
Some of your
routes are often fully booked. You start using revenue management
techniques to increase revenue. You decide to sell selected routes
through travel agents. It is at this moment you need a decision support
database, before it becomes too late to profit from your data.
